Jura Automatic Coffee Machines

by | Feb 16, 2021 | Jura, Product Reviews

Jura is a Swiss company formed in 1931, known for manufacturing household appliances. Today they are a global player in high-end, automatic espresso machines for coffee sophisticates. Their coffee makers are sleek, elegant, and highly functional. Jura models cover the entire process – from the grinding beans to brewing the coffee to barista-style beverages at the push of a button.

The brand thrives on freshly ground bean, no single-use plastic pods in the trash. Jura prides itself on being an eco-friendly company. Each super automatic espresso machine model is equipped with a conical burr or ceramic grinder to produce fine-grained coffee for every cup to maximize flavor during the extraction process.

Jura carries a line of 12 automatic coffee machines that make barista-quality coffee drinks in the home. Espresso, cappuccino, ristretto, lattes, macchiatos and more! This all can come from a single espresso machine with a push of a button. Single-cup or dual cup options are available. These coffee machines even include a self-cleaning cycle in every model. While you will of course still have to ultimately remove the coffee grounds, occassionally empty the spill tray, and also run some simple maintenance, you can expect your Jura machine to run smoothly for many years with proper care.

Jura manufactures both commercial and consumer machines. They are a leader in the consumer machine market, which is expected to grow by 4.6% by 2027. Jura, Inc. reports strong growth among consumer products for their high-end units, priced from $799 to $5999. As you may have read on other pages – as a coffee aficionado, I find this to be an investment in a luxury coffee experience that can even save money over time.

Brand Features

A well-balanced mix of style, function, and quality is the driving force behind the Jura brand. The company sees the brewing process as a sensory experience. Even the milk froth on beverages is served hot, as it is in Europe. From the aromatics of the beans to the flavor of the coffee, they understand their market.

Consumers who purchase Jura automatic coffee makers expect a beautiful machine that produces coffee worth its price. Ease of use and a customizable interface is expected. Jura’s one-touch technology, programmable screens, and self-cleaning units exceed expectations. But just to make sure, their website offers virtual support by appointment.

Jura Technology

Beyond the programmable TFT display on its newer models, Jura technology is designed to enhance the sensory consumer experience. These are a few of their innovations:

  • An Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.®) wirelessly links the filter cartridge and coffee machine with RFID technology. The system alerts when a filter needs to be changed.
  • Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P) is a flavor optimization technique for coffee of smaller proportions, like expresso. Water is released in short bursts to maximize aroma and flavor.
  • Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S) is a technique to develop aroma from the grounds. Before the coffee begins brewing, it’s dowsed with filtered water to increase the aromatics.

Coffee Machine Maintenance

Jura designs its coffee machines to meet strict hygiene standards. The models follow through with simple, automated cleaning systems. CLEARYL water filters capture lime deposits and eliminate the need for descaling. (For earlier systems without CLEARYL, they offer descaling tablets.) There’s a push-button cleaning process to remove coffee oils from building up and clogging the system. Lastly, they sell a milk cleansing for removing milk fats from the frothing apparatus.

Summary: Jura Automatic Coffee Makers

Jura models are well made and beautifully designed. The machines are high-end, starting at just $800, but consumers who buy them seem to have few complaints. Most models are subdued in neutral color choices – silver, black or white – so for us, the Sunset Red of the ENA 8 popped out.
