Miele Automatic Coffee Machines

by | Feb 17, 2021 | Miele, Product Reviews

The Miele Company is located in Germany, family-owned and operated since 1899. They manufacture an entire line of household appliances in Germany and across Europe. In 2010, they added automatic coffee machines sized for the countertop.

They further expanded their line to include built-in bean-to-cup coffee makers installed with cabinets in high-end consumer kitchens. They maintain a list of design partners to assist with installation. They have US offices in Beverly Hills, Seattle, and Princeton, N.J. Built-ins are an excellent option for new construction or renovation, but not likely for existing kitchens.

Sleek design and ease of use dominate both lines of automatic coffeemakers. They are elegant as well as functional, particularly the built-in models. Their pricing is on par with other European manufacturers. The most expensive unit is under $5000. But the built-ins will come with an additional cost for installation.

Some of their services, especially for built-in consultations have been adjusted due to because of the pandemic. Manufacturing capacity was affected as well. Nevertheless, Miele is considered one of the leaders in the market for premium coffee machines.

Miele’s line of automatic coffee makers is elegant and highly functional. The company overall has a strong emphasis on quality and usability across all product lines. Most of their products have front access to the brewing unit – which is dishwasher safe. Miele understands the customer experience doesn’t end with brewing the coffee. Everything needs to be easy when you own one of their machines.

Miele considers sustainability a key element of their brand. Their commitment goes beyond rejecting single-use plastic coffee pods. They emphasize energy efficiency for their products and manufacturing processes. The company as a whole – across all product lines – prioritizes doing business responsibly. They have won numerous awards for their efforts. They are signatory members of Germany’s Diversity Charter, supporting inclusivity and respectful treatment of migrants and refugees.

Miele Technology

Miele machines focus their technology on function, usability, and customer experience. Not all technology is available on all models.

  • AromaticSystem is an intelligent grinding and brewing system to increase the intensity of the aroma and increase the pleasure of the customer experience.
  • OneTouch programming for a single beverage is standard on Miele machines. OneTouch for Two is an upgrade on all automatic coffee machines. Users can make two coffee specialties by simply pushing a button.
  • Separate Coffee Bean containers allow two separate beverages to be brewed at the same time.
  • Programmable Profiles allows 10 users to create a custom profile to save their favorite beverages and personal preferences.
  • Energy-saving Eco Mode keeps the machine from heating up until right before the brewing process begins. The option is not default but can be turned on from the basic settings menu.
  • CupSensor technology automatically responds to different cup heights and adjusts the spout to accommodate the long coffee and tall mug beverages.
  • For models with patented EasyClick technology, the milk system is positioned on the front door of the model, clicking in and out of place.

Coffee Machine Maintenance

The cleanliness of Miele automatic coffee makers is part of the design. ComfortDoor provides easy access to the brewing unit through the front of the model. Consumers appreciate ComfortClean that allows the components to be run through the dishwasher. Some models have an automatic milk cleansing cycle after every milk-based beverage.

Daily Cleaning: Most models have a quick rinse program to cleanse the internal components of the system. If not, rinse the milk carafe after use and wipe the drip tray.

Weekly cleaning: Wipe down the front of the unit and clean the milk valve with the cleaning brush. Remove the brew unit to clean it. Clean the spouts, inside the drip tray and the main dispenser. Empty and wipe the waste unit if the system says it needs cleaning.

Each month clean out the coffee bean container and lubricate the cap on the main dispenser connector. Most Miele coffee machines will alert when it’s time to degrease the milk piping and the brew unit. The same is true for decalcification and descaling. The company sells cleaning products for both processes.

Summary: Miele Coffee Systems

Miele is a powerful global brand and has risen to the top three coffee system manufacturers. Their approach to design is unique. The built-in automatic coffee makers, in addition to countertop models, establishes the company as a provider of luxury goods for wealthier coffee aficionados. During the pandemic, this may have slowed their sales, but not for long. The company’s product list of high-end household appliances offers Miele name brand recognition in its target market.
